I just want to bring attention to the local wikis of northern California, because I've been participating in one of them and finding it to be great fun. There is a nonprofit, member-supported organization called WikiSpot.org that will host local wikis for any city, so if you don't find your city on the list below of local wikis that have already been created, you can create your own local wiki for your city, for free.

Subject:Fat Tire Bike & Appetite Enhancement Ride
Posted by:dawg2501.
Time:11:28 am.
Every Thanksgiving morning, the Rubicon Brewery and other sponsors put out a free buffet and free beer at Sacramento's Towe Auto Museum. Then, after a few hours, everybody heads out into the Capitol, riding bicycles all the way. By some estimates crowds push 400.

Think Critical Mass with more free beer. And free food.

Be sure to check out the Facebook event for more info.

If someone asked you about good places to live anywhere in the triangulated area between (and including) San Francisco, San Jose, and Sacramento that also met the following criteria, what cities/towns would you suggest?

-Relatively easy to find a rental place (house, townhouse, rowhouse, etc.) with a fenced-in backyard (the yard doesn't have to be big)
-Progressive, liberal, laid-back atmosphere
-LGBT friendly
-Would prefer a small-town feel with the advantages of a large city (culture, arts, events, etc.)

Well that's what Valerie, my roommate/wifey is doing. For AIDS. She works for the AIDS foundation in SF where we live, in addition to doing the ride, and has been training like a super-human. Please support her!!!

Even 5$ is a lovely contribution. Whatever you can give is appreciated. Plus she buys me a burger if a do things for her, so alternately you can call this "Sadie's Burger fund".

Anyway, DONATE, it's good karma!!!!!!

Subject:New Century Chamber Orchestra with Margaret Batjer
Posted by:holycow24.
Time:4:15 pm.

The Grammy-nominated New Century Chamber Orchestra is pleased to announce the next program in its 2007-08 season. The program, with performances in San Rafael, Berkeley, Palo Alto, and San Francisco, features a 17-member conductorless string orchestra with guest concertmaster Margaret Batjer.

Currently the concertmaster of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and faculty member of the Thornton Music School at U.S.C., Margaret Batjer has selected a program that traces the arc of 122 years of Baroque music. In addition to such master composers as J.S. Bach and Handel, she includes the obscure but prolific contemporary of Vivaldi, Francesco Geminiani, and the virtuosic son of J.S. Bach, C.P.E. Bach. C.P.E. Bach’s strikingly different style provides a smooth bridge from the late Baroque to the cusp between periods, the Rococo, and brilliantly leads into Haydn’s early treasure, the Symphony No. 8, Le Soir.

F. Geminiani: Concerto Grosso No. 1 in D major
Handel: Concerto Grosso in A major, Op. 6, No. 11
J. S. Bach: Brandenberg Concerto No. 4 in G major, BWV 1049
C. P. E. Bach: String Symphonie in E major
Haydn: Symphony No. 8, Le Soir

San Rafael – Wednesday, November 14 at 7:30pm

Underwritten through the generosity of Morton B. Blatt and Peter G. Holmstrom

Berkeley – Thursday, November 15 at 8pm

Palo Alto – Friday, November 16 at 8pm

Subject:FOR SALE: '95 Saturn SL2
Posted by:frellingbored.
Time:3:09 pm.
I'm selling my 1995 Saturn SL2 four door sedan. It has a salvage title so I'm selling it cheap.

Though it has a salvage title, it didn't suffer any engine damage and the body has been repaired and is now aligned and fine. It has a lot of paint damage and it has a dirty but solid (no rips) interior, but it works. It does need some work.

All lights work and it passed smog recently.

Runs but needs potentially expensive work due to coolant leakage and damage due to hotwiring (theft attempt). It still drives, but currently it needs coolant refills every couple days or so to drive without risking overheating.

If you are mechanically inclined, you can fix it up and make it run perfectly, but it’s not worth the trouble and expense to me.

Great for mechanics looking for used Saturn parts or as a fixer-upper.

Has had a lot of professional work done to keep it running in the last couple years and even the last couple months, so it has many new and newer parts. I have receipts for much of it, including the current recommendation of the work it needs from my mechanic.

Has many salvageable parts: lights, light covers, tires (fairly new), seats, cassette player/radio, seats, dashboard, termostats, engine parts, etc. etc. etc.

Come take a look at it and make me an offer! I’ll be happy to get $1000 for it.  OBO.

Subject:Cheap mobile home
Posted by:frellingbored.
Time:2:10 pm.

I am posting this for a friend of mine with Asperger's Syndrome (a form of autism) who has recently moved, and now has a mobile home in North Highlands that needs to be sold before the end of the month; since he's on disability, he can't afford to pay another month's rent on the mobile he's moved out of and is already in a small amount of debt, so he needs the proceeds from the sale to make things right.  His condition makes things like this extra difficult for him.  He's asked me to help him find potential buyers, and hopes this will be forwarded to them...

Here is what he wrote to me... "I've asked a very fair price; the universal comment has been, 'Oh, this isn't as bad as I'd expected from what you described'."

He's very honest individual, sometimes too honest.  :)

Here's the text from one of the  ads and a couple links:
If you are interested or know someone who might be, use these links:

Or you can post here with contact info and I'll let him to know to contact you.

$4000 2BR 1BA singlewide fixer-upper mobilehome

Anything you can do to help him find a buyer for would be appreciated.

$4000 -- you can't beat the price!
